Styling Ideas Courtesy of Pre-Fall 2014 Collections

I always find that pre-fall and resort collections offer more day-to-day styling ideas than the main collections. There’s still more pre-fall to come, but I figured this was a good time to assess the collections.

I’m currently in the midst of scouring e-commerce sites for deeply discounted goods and it’s very easy to buy things that add zero value to my existing wardrobe when they are on sale. I need some new outfit ideas to remind me what feels fresh and what I want to wear right now before I buy something that’s pointless.

Also, we’re on the brink of a new year which means most of the world is thinking about looking and feeling their best. It’s really admirable and trendy to go on a two-week juice cleanse, but sometimes all you need is a great outfit. Or great pieces that breathe new life into your closet.

I haven’t been blown away by many of the pre-fall collections, but I have come across a few looks or ideas that I would try to recreate. Here they are:

Jason Wu pr-fall 2014

COZY SWEATER + FRILLY, FEMININE SKIRT. This is super easy but also really chic. (Jason Wu)

Thakoon pre-fall 2014

PRINTED BOMBER + PRINTED DRESS. I think we are moving away from matchy-matchy pajama dressing and into this type of print mixing. (Thakoon)

Preen pre-fall 2014

SPORTY COAT + MIDI SKIRT + WHITE COLLARED BLOUSE. Adding a sporty element to a really refined outfit is THE RIGHT THING to do. Actually, buying Preen is the right thing to do. (Preen)

Michael Kors pre-fall 2014

LIGHT BLUE + RED. What a beautiful, unexpected color combination? (Michael Kors)

Alexander Wang pre-fall 2014

STRUCTURED WHITE JACKET + NEUTRAL SEPARATES. Who doesn’t have a black skirt or a neutral turtle neck? The addition of a white jacket or coat elevates those pieces. (Alexander Wang)

Burberry Prorsum pre-fall 2014

CROPPED COAT + GRAPHIC TEE + LACE SKIRT. I want a cropped coat. Now. It is comforting to have a big, oversized coat that can hide all outfit sins from the general public, but sometimes you actually want people to see what you’re wearing. A cropped coat a la this Burberry one will do the trick. (Burberry)

Ports 1961 pre-fall 2014

SHIRT JACKET + SKIRT. The shirt jacket is the new bomber. It’s clean, utilitarian, and something we haven’t seen for women in a while. (Ports 1961)
