Shopping & Styling Ideas From The March Mags

For me, the start of a new season means culling for ideas. I try to figuring out what I want to buy, how I want to look, and then prioritize my shopping. This season I flipped through the March magazines for inspiration. Here’s what I found:

Buy tall gladiator sandals: Last summer I came across this image of Solange performing at the Northside festival and I immediately wanted a tall sandal. I like that the tall gladiator is flat, a must during the summer time, but also sexy and somewhat dramatic. I envision these instantly elevating a pair of denim shorts or a longer skirt/dress.

Consider mules: I haven’t tried on any, so I don’t know how comfortable they are for traipsing around New York City, but the pointy toe mule is one of those pieces that can easily make the rest of your outfit chic or sexy. Have you seen Vanessa Traina wear them? That’s enough for me to buy into the trend.

Try matching separates: I’m not talking about pajama dressing. I’m talking about something more structured, bold, and graphic a la this Suno outfit Joy Bryant is wearing above.

Wear more pink: I wanted to integrate pink into my fall/winter wardrobe. It didn’t happen. So I’m going to try again this season. Yes, the color is on trend, but it also suits my skin tone. I’m more interested in a baby pink.

Wear denim with a red lip: Denim on denim still feels fresh. I’m actually still in search of the perfect denim or chambray shirt. And something about a bold red lip just adds interest.

Culottes: They are trendy now, but I’ve always been into culottes. I like the silhouette. I particularly like the Lyn Devon look above.

Wear white on white: White is still on the brain. I want to wear it constantly. I’ve incorporated it into my winter wardrobe, as shown here, but I haven’t worn white on white. That’s a goal I want to accomplish this summer.
