3 Brands To Watch From Capsule

You know all of your favorite specialty boutiques? Capsule is where they go to fill their stores. The women’s trade show, which took place in New York City a couple weeks ago, is brimming with cool brands (and cool girls) and these three stood out:

The Power of a Haircut

Sam, The Style Tip’s talented in-house photographer, got a haircut this summer. When I met Sam she had shoulder length hair and blunt bangs, which she said she would never get rid of. Well, things have changed and over the summer she felt compelled to chop it all of. Read on to see where she got her hair cut — you’ll be surprised — and how it’s improved her style. She’s also implemented some new techniques that make getting dressed each morning easier.

What I Liked From New York Fashion Week

New York Fashion Week is done. My main focus was on men’s, as I cover that category for WWD, but I’m a woman who wears/loves clothes and is always looking for inspiration. Hence this site. Here’s what caught my eye during NYFW spring 2016.

Making the Case for Nike Air Rifts

nike-air-rift-red-jd-sports-exclusives-2I’m currently drawn to the Nike Air Rift sneaker. I don’t know when that happened, but all of a sudden I’m seeing girls wear them in a non-athleisure way and I like how it looks. They are a departure from the sneakers of the moment (Stan Smiths, slip on Vans, etc.), which is refreshing. And I presume they are incredibly comfortable. Will I actually buy them? Possibly. If so, I would probably go for either red or black and wear them with cropped trousers and denim. Click through to see how other girls are wearing them.

How To Wear Culottes And Not Look Too Trendy

I keep hearing this notion that the “trend is dead.” But I don’t believe that at all. It might be less prevalent, but trends are still around and they still impact what I choose to purchase/wear. I don’t run away from trends, but if EVERYONE is wearing it, I usually try to abstain. For instance, Stan Smiths are a great shoe, but I just can’t partake. They are on the feet of one too many girls in New York City. But what happens when a trendy item is a staple for you? That’s the question I’m asking myself about culottes.

How Women Dress During Men’s Fashion Week

Next week I will be covering the inaugural New York Fashion Week: Men’s. I’m not perplexed about what to wear, but I thought I would pull together some looks from the European men’s shows for inspiration.

I do notice a difference between what women wear to men’s shows and what they wear to women’s. The looks are less ostentatious, more casual and overall more appealing (well, to me). There’s less focus on prints and more focus on shapes, which has been my mode of dressing lately. And can we pause for Azza Yousif (pictured above and after the jump) who looks fresh faced and cool ALL.THE.TIME. More looks below.

Helen’s Shopping Routine

Helen in Rachel Comey Jumpsuit

Meet Helen. A San Francisco mom with a really endearing fashion blog that simply documents what she wears. There’s no intellectualizing about clothes, no lengthy discussions about Isabel Marant and no ersatz editorials with her brooding into a camera. I find her blog refreshing — her daughter is also beyond adorable — but it always leaves me wanting know more. That’s why I reached out to her and asked her several questions about how she shops, where she shops and what’s on her radar now. (Click on the pictures for outfit IDs.)

10 Resort 2016 Looks I Want To Recreate

I appreciate fashion because I appreciate beautiful things, but another level of appreciation comes in when I see a complete look I want to wear. If you’ve never scanned through collections and saved looks that you like, try it. It’s an exercise that allows you to see what you like (duh), how you want to look, and in effect, what you want to buy. Here are 10 looks from the resort 2016 collections that I want to wear, which include this Trademark dress above. I’m into ruffles and big earrings.
